Dear ,
I am writing as a resident of
One of my key concerns is the future of
.
This service is vital to local people, and I want to see it protected and properly funded.
[SELECT MOST RELEVANT BLOCK TO CUSTOMISE]
It is especially frustrating to see Scotland facing such pressure on public services when the UK remains one of the richest countries in the world. The wealthiest 10 people in Scotland have around £25 billion between them, yet around 1 million people are living inpoverty. We have great wealth— it is simply not being fairly shared, or fairly taxed. I believe it is right that those who can afford to contribute more should do so, to ensure that Scotland and can function and flourish.
Tax Justice Scotland have a whole suite of policy reforms that would make Scotland fairer, which I support. You can read more about them in this report; https://taxjustice.scot/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/TaxJusticeScotland-Report-Digital-Nov24.pdf
A fair tax on wealth, as advocated by Tax Justice UK, is one way to reinvest in public services at a time when ordinary people have faced stagnant wages, rising costs, and years of austerity. If you are elected in May, will you use your position as an MSP to advocate for better funding for public services, including making the case for fairer taxation of extreme wealth at the UK level?
In addition, council tax reform — such as the proposals put forward by Fairer Share — could unlock the funds needed to protect ’s services without pushing the burden onto already squeezed households. The Scottish Parliament has the power to reform council tax and business rates. These could be replaced with proportional property taxes that make better use of Scotland’s devolved powers. Will you advocate for this approach if elected?
I would be grateful to hear your position on these issues, and to understand how you plan to stand up for residents who want strong local services but cannot absorb further costs, and who want to see a fairer, more equitable tax system for Scotland.
Yours sincerely,
