Tax Justice UK is delighted to announce the appointment of experienced economic justice campaigner Robert Palmer as its first Executive Director, starting on 12 February.
”We are very pleased that Robert has agreed to lead Tax Justice UK through its crucial first phase of growth and impact”, said Will Snell, TJUK’s founder, who is transitioning to a non-executive role as Chair of the organisation after setting it up in May 2017. “Robert’s past achievements in working with partners, policymakers and the media to create change are a perfect fit for our ambitious plans for the coming years.”
Robert helped set up the first permanent team for the Open Data Charter, which is a network of governments and organisations committed to achieving a world where data is used as a public good.
Previously he was at Global Witness, where he led a global movement to challenge how the financial system facilitates corruption. Robert carried out high profile investigations, built coalitions and helped to pass ground-breaking laws to curb shell company secrecy.
“I’m excited to campaign for a more progressive and effective tax system in the UK,” said Robert. “We need to make sure that there’s enough money to fund public services, like the NHS, and that everyone pays their fair share”.
