Autumn Budget reaction

Tax Justice UK reactive statement to John Healey’s 2026 Autumn Budget – 28 October.

Faiza Shaheen, Executive Director at Tax Justice UK said:

“Healey’s support on the cost of living and doing business will be welcomed, but if we’re being honest, pales in comparison to what was needed. This Budget was meant to be a turning point for Britain to put the country on a different path, promised by Burnham. But the gap between those words and the Chancellor’s Budget is stark. We didn’t see reforms that would make the wealthiest pay fair taxes on their income from assets, nor a fair tax on the extraordinary profits banks have been making. These could have paid for game changing action to break the affordability crisis that’s got a grip over almost every aspect of people’s lives – from housing to childcare, to energy bills and transport. Billions upon billions left on the table, lining the pockets of the super-rich and corporate balance sheets, and siphoned off into offshore accounts, while people were dished up yet more of the same.”
